Our history is defined by technical advances, extended range of services and products, and focused investments in sustainability.
1970s: Establishment and initial steps
- 1971: The company started the production of wooden posts and the first stripping machine for processing roundwood in a small barn in Möderscheid.
- 1973: Construction of our own impregnation plant to become independent of the long waiting times associated with external service providers.
- 1975: Expansion of capacity with a second stripping machine and conversion of the private firm into the private limited company Peter Müller GmbH.
1980s: Expansion and energy efficiency
- 1980–1985: Construction of a new workshop with crane bridge and commissioning of additional stripping and milling lines.
- 1981: Installation of a heating system fuelled by wood chips to utilise production residues.
- 1984: Construction of the first drying chambers and purchase of an additional impregnation vessel for salt impregnation (olive & brown).
1990s: Fence and timber construction
- 1990: Installation of a sorting plant and automation of the stripping lines.
- 1996: Entry into enclosure fencing with special equipment for its installation.
- 1998: Construction of a new production hall with an area of 1,250 m².
- 1999: Purchase of the first CNC-controlled Hundegger system and start of production of elements for modern wood frame construction.
2000s: Modernisation and new structures
- 2004: Move to the new timber-frame administrative building.
- 2005: Installation of a new Hundegger K2+.
- 2009: Long-standing employees Gilbert Leyens and Kurt Faymonville took over the reins at the company.
2010s: Growth and sustainability
- 2011: Construction of a storage facility for construction timber, introduction of an environmental management system and ISO 14001 certification.
- 2013: Installation of a photovoltaic system (250 kWp) and modernisation of the machinery for assembling paddock fencing.
- 2015: Installation of equestrian arena fencing for Belgian top show jumper Grégory Wathelet.
2020s: Innovation and investment in the future
- 2019: Introduction of the dark colour variant for pressure impregnation with chrome-free copper salts, in anticipation of the EU-wide ban on creosote, allowing existing fencing systems to be extended with a matching colour using a creosote-free product.
- 2021: Acquisition of an additional hall (1,200 m²) in Weismes (B) and a second Hundegger K2i for timber framing.
- 2022: Development of the DeepProtect incising process and investment in the ‘Excalibur’ machine for optimum treatment of posts.
- 2023: Extension of the operating licence for 20 years and dismantling of the old creosote facilities.
- 2024: Major investments in Möderscheid with soil remediation, the construction of a new covered warehouse (3,000 m²), the installation of a 750 kW boiler and a combined heat and power plant with 56 kW of electrical output.
- 2025: Purchase of an additional modern copper salt pressure impregnation plant and introduction of Postsaver® technology for posts.
Peter Müller GmbH currently employs around 25 people at its two locations, serving numerous customers in more than ten countries.
